Mahakal Temple β Hilltop Shiva Shrine Near Baijnath
Mahakal Temple is a sacred hilltop shrine dedicated to Lord Mahakal β a fierce form of Lord Shiva β just 5 km from Baijnath. It offers some of the most spectacular panoramic views of the Kangra Valley and Dhauladhar range available anywhere in the region.
The Trek
Easy to moderate difficulty: 2 to 3 km through pine and oak forest, gaining 200 to 300m altitude, taking 45 to 60 minutes. The path is well-worn and pleasant to walk even before the temple comes into view.
Views from the Summit
A 270-degree panorama: the Dhauladhar range rising to 4500m to the north, the entire Kangra Valley below, the Bir Billing plateau to the east, and Baijnath town far below. Sunrise from Mahakal is one of the finest in the Kangra Valley. October and March mornings offer the clearest visibility.
